SFX workshops

here are the workshops that i did in the walls of the academy

always remember about health and safety! you can read more about that below

bruises (blunt force)

photo_2022-09-28_21-01-46.jpg

materials can be:

> oil-based (body paints)

> water-based (special makeup gel)

1. for a base I used water-based gel in yellow color, it blends well so you don't need much of it.

we were given the task of doing three bruises: with a water-based gel, oil-based body paints, and a mixed technique. in any case, you don't need o lot of materials, use them wisely.

2. when the base is ready, be guided by real life examples and colors that you can see there. most often it's red, blue, purple and maybe even green.

3. use different items to apply makeup. fingers, sponges, brushes and so on. a variety of techniques can give even more realism, just don't overdo it!

cuts (laceration)

materials to use:

> makeup glue; vaseline

> scar was

> fake blood

> oil-based paints

> prostick; proclean - for removing makeup

layers of skin: epidermis, dermis, subcutaneous

coloring techniques for scar wax: intrinstic - mixing wax with body paints; extrinstic - applying color on wax

1. before creating a cut a prostick should be applied on chosen place so the wax adheres better to the skin.

2. when the glue dries, take some wax and warm it up in your hands, but don't overdo it so it doesn't get to sticky.

3. roll the wax into a small sausage and place it on the skin as you need. using a stick at an angle of 45°, smooth the edges of the sausage so that the excess material is gone and the rest fits snugly against the skin.

4. with a sharp part of stick carefully make an incision along the entire length of the future cut. use the vaseline to smooth the cut for more realistic look.

5. then you can add some shades with oil-based body paints. at the end take some fake blood and apply it on your cut.

burns

materials to use:

> water/oil-based kryolan
> latex (can cause allergy!)

> oil to break down

1. use kryolan to make a color of your burn with sponge
2. make 3 or more layers of latex. help yourself with hairdryer (be careful with model or yourself!)
3. make a hole in the middle of your burn to show how skin peeled off
4. use some more kryolan (or it can be fake blood) to show opened skin, cover it with vaseline

Open evening SFX workshops

We had an open evening at the beginning of November 2022 for future student to explore some things abut our academy, so we as students were asked to take part in it. Our creative pathway was doing SFX workshops to show what we learned in two months of our studying. I was doing a bit of both SFXs such as bruises and cuts

Health ad Safety in the beauty industry

There are many things in the beauty industry that can be harmful to health. These include both mechanical damage and allergic reactions. Items such as scissors, scalpels and other piercing and cutting things should be in a safe place so that no one can harm themselves. It is important to work with gloves if you use paint or substances that can cause you allergies.

Trompe-l'œil/camouflage

photo_2022-10-09_18-52-18.jpg

Trompe-l'œil (French for 'deceive the eye') is an artistic term for the highly realistic optical illusion of three-dimensional space and objects on a two-dimensional surface. Trompe l'oeil, which is most often associated with painting, tricks the viewer into perceiving painted objects or spaces as real.

We used this technique to camouflage the hands to match the pattern on the wallpaper pieces. But we also had the task of using only primary colors and using them to create other shades so that they converged with the colors of the patterns (more about color theory you can read here)

in the video you can see how the angle of view affects the optical illusion.

Ageing Makeup

Materials to use:

> tile

> brushes

> kryolan aging wheel

> white supracolor

>powder

The first step is to identify all the existing wrinkles on the face of the model. Ask them to make a little face: raise eyebrows, frown them, smile and squint eyes. Using a dark shade from the kryolan wheel, darken the places of the wrinkles. Then, take a white supracolor and line each crease. Blend the wrinkles well with a sponge or a wide brush.  You can also add more expressive bruises under the eyes or thin the lips.

Fuller's Earth makeup effect

Fuller's earth is a clay-like substance that's mostly composed of aluminum magnesium silicate.

Fuller's Earth is most commonly used in the cosmetic industry where it is often added to skin care products to help remove grease or oil from the skin. But, as you can see, it is also used for creating very original makeup.

You can create different effects. It all depends on how much water you add to the powder. The more water, the smaller the cracks in the makeup. Also such make-up can be covered with water-based paints, but be very careful because the make-up is very fragile. It is easier to add colors before applying to the make-up base itself.
